2017 Annual JASNC Conference Reception
We will be hosting a reception at the Ackland Art Museum at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill Campus located at 101 S. Columbia Street, Chapel Hill, NC. The reception will be co-sponsored with the Carolina Asia Center.
Dr. John Carpenter, the Mary Griggs Burke Curator of Japanese Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, presents "The Three Perfections of Japanese Art: Painting, Poetry, and Calligraphy - Masterworks from the Mary Griggs Burke Collection"
This lecture will serve as the perfect introduction to Japanese painting and calligraphy and the way image interacts with the literary in East Asian tradition. The focus will be on works from the current exhibition Celebrating the Arts of Japan: The Mary Griggs Burke Collection, on view through May 14, 2017. Dr. Carpenter will also discuss how Mary Burke’s own exposure to Japanese art, literature and tea culture in the 1960s and 70s inspired her and her husband, Jackson, to build one of the finest private collections of Japanese art in the West.
During the reception, the Ackland Art Museum will be open for private viewing and refreshments will be served.
The Conference Raffle will be drawn by Mr. John Carpenter after his lecture.
