As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States, I am reminded not only of our nation’s enduring ideals, but also of the relationships that bring those ideals to life. The bond between the United States and Japan stands as one of our most important and dynamic global partnerships—rooted in shared values, mutual respect, and a commitment to peace, innovation, and global leadership. Through the work of Japan America Societies across the country, including here in North Carolina, we see how this partnership is strengthened at the grassroots level—through cultural exchange, educational programming, and person-to-person connections that build lasting understanding. I am proud to witness firsthand how these local ties reinforce a vital global alliance, creating opportunities and deepening friendship for generations to come.

In that same spirit of celebration and connection, we wish everyone a happy and safe Fourth of July.
